How To Tuesday: Tattoo Coverup

This weekend I got a new tattoo. And this one is in a more viewable place than my other one, and my brother...well he had a few choice things to say:

brother: you don't know what kind of wedding dress you're going to wear one day! It could show!
me: yes, it could. but if I don't want it to, I'll just cover it up.
brother: with what?
me: Jane Iredale makeup covers tattoos.
brother: oh.

So brother, this tutorial is to show you, that it can indeed be done.

But just a little tip: covering tattoos with makeup is not really for daily use. It's really for pictures or one day things, like job interviews or weddings. Because as you can see in the picture above, you can still see it slightly if you look close. But from a regular distance you can't tell at all.

Be ready to be amazed.

What you'll need:

  1. Jane Iredale Disappear
  2. Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Powder
  3. Jane Iredale spritzer of your choice

Step 1: Disappear

You want to apply it pretty heavily. Really cake it on. Blend it out, then let it dry completely before next step

Step 2: Pressed Powder

Pat the pressed powder on, blending out. Then spritz.

Step 3: Repeat, repeat

It takes a couple of layers to get the desired coverage. I think we did 4 layers on Stephanie's tattoo. Just make sure to let each layer dry completely before moving on to the next one.

no tattoo can be seen!

tada!

just in case you needed to see it again.

3 Steps to Your Perfect Hair Day

wow, that girl has perfect hair!

The perfect hair day. Doesn't it seem to always happen when you're not going anywhere? Or you're going to the hair salon. Well it does for me. The most perfect hair day in my history of perfect hair days was when I was on my way to get my hair cut off. Talk about bad timing.

But there are steps you can do to achieve your perfect hair day...every day!

  1. practice your routine. yeah it sounds simple, but after getting a new cut or style, relearning how to style your hair can be hard. so practice. a lot. once you get the hang of your round brush or curling iron, perfect hair will be on its way.
  2. wake up in time. in college i spent a lot of time sleeping in, ergo i spent a lot of time in ponytails. ponytails are cool but i've never looked at a pony and said, wow that girl has perfect hair. so give yourself plenty of time to fix your hair in the morning.
  3. work with what you've got. i've said it before, but the best step to perfect hair is to work with what you have going on. it's way easier to pull out that curling iron than to try and straighten out those bed-head kinks. you know those ones i'm talking about. we've all had them. don't fight with your hair in the mornings, embrace it!

An Ode To Fun Colored Hair

There was a time in my life when I had hot pink hair. It was a brief, but awesome time. I've been seeing a lot of fun colors in hair lately, and I'm sort of jealous. I'm just not sure if I have the guts to do it anymore. So I just lust over the ladies and men who have it.

I'll just live vicariously through y'all, okay?

Check out some of my favorite looks from Pinterest below.

How To Tuesday: Braided T-Shirt Headband

Don't run away if you think you can't DIY! I'm a terrible DIYer, but I did this project with ease.

I love this DIY headband because a) I've got a ton of t-shirts lying around and b) my short hair is always falling out of my pony tails when working out and c) who doesn't love a cute headband?

No one. That's who.

Step 1: cut your shirt

You want to cut off the bottom hem first. Then cut three 1" sections all the way across.

Step 2: braid

So there's a step in between that. Okay two steps. First cut one end of your loops to make them into three long pieces. Then pull them so they roll into each other. Tape one end together (then to a piece of furniture)... So that was three steps. Don't judge me.

Then braid it.

When you get to the end (or big enough for your head) just tie the two ends together. The end.

Tall Women and Other Beautiful Traits

I just wanted to take a moment to talk about what makes us beautiful.

Last night I was watching the gold medal women's beach volleyball match between Misty May-Treanor/ Kerri Walsh-Jennings and Jen Kessy/ April Ross. (congrats to the reigning champions for winning!) I heard them say that Kerri Walsh was 6'3". I knew she was tall, but 6'3"? That's taller than my dad.

I got to thinking about how when she was younger she was probably teased for her height. But the beautiful thing is that she embraced it, became the world's best beach volleyball blocker--something that requires height. She embraced it.

It's a lesson that all women (and men!) can learn from. Even if there is something that might make you stand out or cause you to get teased for...embrace it, because you're beautiful! You never know...you could be the next Olympic gold medalist.

What trait are you embracing today?

How To Tuesday Wednesday: Braided Mohawk

I posted this photo in last week's Link Love. It was so fantastic, I just needed someone to do it. I couldn't since I recently cut my hair off.

The look is so fun and edgy. So I made our manager Alicia do it for today's tutorial. It's not exactly the same, but it's pretty close.

Step 1: tease the crown

tease at the crown to creat lots of volume

Step 2: begin your inside out braid

inside out briads work the same as regular, just braid outwards inside of inwards

go all the way down the head

Step 3: pull and twist braid

This is the step that turns the braid from a braid into a mohawk. don't be afraid to mess it up, or even use bobby pins to pin it to the side. make it as big as you want!

Acne Map

I posted a link to an article a couple of weeks ago about how where your breakouts are on your face can tell you things. Then, I was reading a magazine in the salon and found an article about the same thing. It's interesting stuff.

The top Murad educator and Chinese medicine scholar, Julieta Vidal-Lubin says that the position of your acne is trying to tell you something about yourself.

If your acne is on your...

forehead: this could mean problems with your stomach and digestion. If you have too much sugar (from things like sweets, breads, pasta, or alcohol) it causes excess yeast. A sign of this is those tiny, inflamed congested areas on the forehead. also try cutting down on your salt. it can cause you to be over oily...thus the pimples.

above your eyebrow: this could be a sign of problems with your adrenal glands, also known as your stress regulators. If your stressed out, take some time to relax. It could help with your breakouts.

chin and marionette line: the PMS pimples

jawline and neck: another hormone and adrenal gland indicator. slow down girl!
